Our facilities are primary birthing centres for all women having low-risk births, without intervention

Take a Virtual Tour

Our primary birthing service is free to women of all ages who are eligible for care in New Zealand hospitals and whose pregnancy is considered low risk primary care.  Our rooms have ensuite bathrooms which include a water birthing facility.

We provide a calm and nurturing setting for women to have an active birth, and enjoy the crucial first days with their baby in a supportive environment. We provide extensive post-natal care, including support with breastfeeding.

Our vision is to work in partnership with families to effect an informed, active and natural birthing experience.

VISITOR RESTRICTIONS

COVID-19 Protection Framework

With the new setting announced by the government, as of Friday 3rd December 2021, our Birthing Centres are now operating under the guidelines of the COVID-19 Protection Framework, more commonly known as the ‘Traffic Light Settings’. These settings determine the level of restrictions applied within our services, depending on whether the region is operating at the Red, Orange or Green setting.

As per the recent vaccination mandate for the health sector, all staff at our Birthing Centres are vaccinated (has at least had their first vaccination) and will need to fulfil the requirements of the mandate by becoming fully vaccinated by the 1st January 2022.

IMPORTANT: Please note there are no Vaccine Pass requirements for pregnant/birthing women or their nominated support person.  All other visitors will need to provide their vaccine passport to gain access to our centres, from 15 December 2021.  Mask wearing will remain mandatory in all common areas.

Below are our existing restrictions.  These will be updated to reflect the Traffic Light System by Friday 10th December.

Nga Hau Mangere Birthing Centre is registered as an essential service. This means we are open.

To protect those at the centre, including mothers, babies and our teams, we have put the following measures in place.

  • One screened support person may accompany a woman to her antenatal appointment, but still wating in their cars until the LMC indicates that she is ready.
  • There will still be one support person for the labour & birth and the postnatal stay BUT that person can be swapped out once during the woman’s stay if they have also been appropriately screened.
  • Vigorous hand hygiene is essential
  • Food may be dropped off to the centre, but we will still continue to provide meals for the support person if required.
  • We will continue to provide meals to the support person as required.

The team at Nga Hau Birthing Centre sincerely apologises for any stress this causes.

However the safety of mothers, their newborns and our team is paramount during these very difficult times for all.
